"the days" by liza
today, i found out something that kind of puzzled me. hopefully, it isn't a secret, because i would like to share it with you, dear internet:
those were the days.
yes, that's right. those were the days. poignant, i know. but let's look closer, and ask ourselves WHAT were the days? and what exactly made them "the days?"
i propose to you that "the days" is intended to mean the early days of scott's diary, stemming back all the way to september 23, 1999. i also propose to you that "those" means the days when scott wrote in his own diary. oh, how short-lived "those" days were! for, you see (and by you, i mean scott's adoring fans), on december 20, 1999, the perfection that was scott's diary was tainted by a guest writer named liza. and thus began the long, steep decline of "love letters to the internet." now, with the addition of another guest writer (scott's girlfriend, no less), we have perhaps reached what can be called the anti-climax of the diary, the point which the diary can go no further below.
in closing, i would like to offer my sincerest apologies to you, the loyal admirer of scott's diary from the pre-liza era. you have endured a difficult and tumultuous thirteen months, and i can only hope that an end is near.
